Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures are for those who have lost some of their natural teeth, but also have some healthy natural teeth remaining that can be used to hold a denture in place.

What are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are dentures that replace some, but not all teeth in a given arch. They can replace as little as one tooth, or as much as all but one tooth. Generally, partial dentures will have an underlying metal framework which supports the denture and clasps to the healthy natural teeth to increase stability and retention. There all alternatives which do not contain metal, but these are only used in specific circumstances.

A framework supported partial denture will take 4 appointments to make, which takes 3 weeks on average. Smaller partials which only replace a few select teeth, called flippers, can, in some cases, be made same day.

As always, the first appointment would include a free consult to determine if partial dentures are right for you. If we decide to go forward with treatment, we may also take impressions of your teeth.

Next, we send the cast replica of your mouth off to a lab in Calgary to have the metal framework fabricated, this can take upwards of 2 weeks.

Once we receive the framework back, we will perform a framework try-in to test the fit of the metal and a bite registration, which simply means we record how your jaws come together when you bite.

Afterwards, we will do a wax try-in, which is when all of the teeth are set in wax so you can see what the denture will look like before we finish it in hard acrylic.

Lastly, we will give the finished denture to you and double check everything to ensure you leave our clinic happy and healthy.

As healthcare providers, we firmly believe that treatment does not end at delivery. Instead we will always be open to you in case you are having difficulties with your dentures and will be by your side as you adapt.
